Important Facts About Anti-Oxidants

It is now scientifically proven that such skin conditions as wrinkles and pigmentation problems are primarily the result of free-radical damage. Most free-radical damage comes from air and sunlight (UV rays), but it can also be caused by any number of pollutants, inclduing cigarette smoke, herbicides and pesticides. Topical antioxidants are an extremely effective way to reduce and at least partially neutralize free-radical damage. These topical compounds essentially "mop up" free radicals, thereby reducing free-radical damage incurred by the skin. Many vitamins have antioxidant properties, including vitamins A, C, and E.

Preventing free-radical damage is important because, if we don't get enough antioxidant protection, free-radicals will cause cells to break down, impairing or destroying their ability to function normally. Free-radical damage destroys collagen and other skin components.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C, usually present in skincare products as L-ascorbic acid, is not only an extremely potent anti-oxidant, but is also responsible for helping stimulate fibroblast activity. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is necessary in the synthesis of collagen by its action of being a co-factor during prolyl and lysyl hydroxylation and acts as a transcriptional effector as well. Vitamin C therefore not only blocks free radicals, but helps to make fine lines and wrinkles disappear. It also fades discoloration, and leaves skin glowing with vibrant health.

Vitamin C is so widely accepted in the skincare community that numerous Vitamin C preparations are now widely available. Unfortunately, not all of these products work as L-ascorbic acid requires a pH of less than 3.5 to penetrate the skin and maintain its effectiveness. Moreover, most of the Vitamin C preparations that are effective are outrageously overpriced.

Once absorbed, Vitamin C cannot be washed off and remains effective in the skin for over 24 hours. You should make the most of Vitamin C's antioxidant abilities and apply in the morning, under your sunscreen.

L- Ascorbic Acid

L-Ascorbic Acid is one of the most widely studied and effective anti-oxidant. On topical application and under suitable conditions (concentration of up to 20% and pH less than 3.5), this form of vitamin C can penetrate into the deeper layers of the epidermis where the melanocyte cells are located. These cells produce the protective brown pigment, melanin, on exposure to actinic (U.V.) light. L-Ascorbic acid, if present in sufficent concentration, reduces melanin to a colorless substance, inhibiting the formation of freckles, excessive darkening of the skin, "age spots" and possible precancerous lesions such as melanomas.

L-Ascorbic acid is one of the protective substances which is involved in the capturing or neutralizing of free radicals formed upon exposure to U.V. radiation.

Vitamin C + has a pronounced toning and firming effect on the skin, making it suitable as an ingredient in cosmetics intended for use in the vicinity of the eyes (reduction of puffiness, etc.) as well as skin care products for aging and mature skin.

Due to its melanin reducing properties, Vitamin C + can improve the appearance of freckled complexions, age spots and discolored skin areas.

The protein and carbohydrate constituents of Vitamin C serve as excellent moisturizing and counter-irritating agents which penetrate deeply into the epidermis

Ferulic Acid

Ferulic acid is a phytochemical found naturally in the seeds and leaves of many plants, as well as in rice, whole wheat and oats. It's also present in coffee, apples, oranges, pineapple, peanuts and artichoke.

As a potent antioxidant, ferulic acid works to neutralize destructive molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals are the result of normal metabolism and are also caused by environmental factors such as pollution, smoking and sunlight exposure. Scientists believe free radicals contribute to the aging process and may also lead to the development of degenerative disease.

Ferulic acid provides significant "photoprotective" benefits, guarding the skin from ultraviolet light.

Ferulic acid is also anti-inflammatory.

We offer both of these importaint anti-aging and protective ingredents in one formula, 15% Vitamin C with Ferulic Acid. Unlike some l-ascorbic acid products, our formula is pleasant to use and non-irritating for most users due to the addition of hydrosols and hyaluronic acid.

Triple Action Vitamin C Serum

This novel formula uses Ascorbyl Glucoside, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. These three forms of vitamin C create a remarkable synergistic combination that remains stable for long periods, offering high antioxidant, collagen boosting and skin lightening properties without any rritation of the skin. In fact, this formula is soothing and anti-inflamatory. Most users report a certain "glow" to skin that is not always seen with the acidic forms of Vitamin C. It is the perfect product to use after facial peels or for those whose skin cannot tolerate the acidic L-ascorbic preperations. It is also a perfect companion product to L-ascorbic acid; many people choose to use Vitamin C 15% with Ferulic Acid in the A.M. and Triple Action Vitamin C Serum in the P.M. This combination gives you the best of both worlds, especially for those suffering from pigmentation problems. Triple Action Vitamin C Serum is also great for the eye area, which may not tolerate the acidity of Vitamin C 15% with Ferulic Acid.

Benefits of Triple C Serum include:

Non-acidic formula won’t irritate the skin
Product is extremely stable over long periods
High doses of vitamin C quickly penetrate and revitalize skin
Reduces wrinkles and lines
Potent antioxidants deliver protection to deep layers of cells
Absorbed more quickly and deeply than ascorbic acid alone
Restores softer, smoother, firmer skin
Effective anti-inflammatory
Produces glowing, radiant skin

Recommendations For Using Antioxidants

Vitamin C should be used daily on the face, neck and even hands. Make sure to use a Vitamin C serum every A.M. If the
15% Vitamin C with Ferulic Acid
is too irritating for the immediate eye area, including eyelids. the Triple Action Vitamin C may be used for the eyes instead.

Those with pigment problems can use a Vitamin C Serum both A.M. and P.M. for maximum results. In fact, our Triple Action Vitamin C has special anti-pigment properties not found in any other Vitamin C product on the market today. It contains
Ascorbyl Glucoside, a proven skin lightening and age-spot reducer which has been historically recognized in Japan as a Quasi drug for skin whitening

For additional Vitamin C benefits and overall skin glow and anti-inflammatory benefits, everyone can benefit from the use of Vitamin C 15% with Ferulic Acid every A.M. and Triple Action Vitamin C Serum every P.M. over the entire face and neck.
